Good Slides. Bad Intentions.

Shuffleboard at the Store

A game of touch, tactics and knocking your mate’s best shot straight into the gutter.

Play one-on-one or in two teams. Each round, you’ll use the scoring zones to calculate your score.

Win the round, bag 1 match point. First team to 10 wins the game.

Here are our top tips on how to play…

1

2

Slide into action.

Both sides play from the same end of the table. Stand behind the end and take turns sliding one puck at a time towards the opposite end.

Aim to land in the highest scoring zone you can reach without disappearing off the end or sides.

Your puck must pass the table’s minimum scoring line to stay in play. If it falls short, remove it. Any puck that ends up in the gutter is also out of the round.

Top tip: Easy does it. A gentle slide can go a long way; an enthusiastic shove can go a little too far.

3

Pick your sides. Settle who starts.

Choose your teams and a puck colour each. If you’re playing in teams, share the shots around.

Next, choose who goes first. We recommend a split-the-G showdown or a rock-paper-scissors battle. The winner chooses whether to play first or second.

Top tip: Going second gives you the last shot of the round. Handy if someone needs knocking off their perch.

Make yourself unpopular.

You’re welcome to knock your opponents’ pucks off the table, nudge your own into a better position or leave a blocker in the way.

Keep alternating until all pucks have been played. Leave the surviving pucks where they finish—you’ll need them to score the round.

Top tip: Already sitting pretty? Protect your leading puck with a blocker. There’s no obligation to make life easy for the opposition.

4

Count the score.

Here’s where the numbered zones earn their keep.

Only one team scores in each round: the team with the puck furthest down the table.

Starting with that leading puck, count the zone value of each of that team’s pucks until you reach an opponent’s puck. Any pucks behind the opponent’s closest puck don’t count.

A few details to settle before the heated debate begins:

A puck must be completely over a line to earn the higher zone’s score. Touching the line? It gets the lower score.

A puck hanging over the far end earns 1 extra point, provided it stays on the table. A little nerve deserves a little reward.

Pucks in the gutter score nothing. Even if they were “definitely going in”.

For example: Red has two leading pucks: one fully in the 3-point zone and one touching the line between 2 and 3. The next puck is blue. Red scores 3 + 2 = 5 for the round. Any red pucks behind that blue puck don’t count.
